Clutch Design Studio is on a mission to create incredible additions to the built environment. Our approach combines innovation with acuity to create lasting value for our clients, our community and the environment.
We never take anything at face value. Instead we ask: What more can architecture do? How can design improve the way we work, move, live, connect? How can ideas be abstracted to better serve our clients? Our community? Our shared environment?

President / Architect
Matt Robertson is the President and Founding Partner of Clutch Design Studio. After graduating from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a degree in Environmental Design, Robertson started his professional career designing schools with Steed Hammond Paul Architects in Cincinnati. From there, he found his way to Fentress Architects in Denver, where he spent nine years developing an extensive portfolio of private and public sector projects such as the North Las Vegas City Hall, San Joaquin Civic Center, and the Colorado Convention Center expansion.
In 2011, Matt founded Clutch Design Studio. As the firm’s leader, Matt is a flexible chameleon and works across all aspects of the design process ranging from project management to team building, creative problem solving and business development. His curiosity for unconventional ideas is evident in each structure Clutch designs. “We have never specialized in a specific type or style. We work with clients who truly want something different. The world doesn’t need more white boxes, and I intend to push the envelope as far as we are allowed to go.”
Robertson is a skilled communicator who develops strong relationships and partnerships with the firm’s clients, consultants and vendors. “We are a boutique team with a strong network of partners, which allows us to design and build structures of all sizes and scopes. We are proof that you don’t need a team of 20 to design and build an office tower.”
Matt is actively engaged in the Denver community as a board member of Blue Sky Fund and avid supporter of Denver Academy, Children’s Hospital and Children’s Garden Montessori School.

We are fortunate to live and work in a place that allows for creating meaningful indoor/outdoor connections that can be utilized year-round.
