Department of Transportation Headquarters
The DOT headquarters was the first executive cabinet-level office building constructed following 9/11. Spanning 2 city blocks, the design for a 2 million square foot complex creates two separate buildings that complement each other with respect to their size, shape and architectural character. Floor plans and fenestration were designed to ensure that all employees had access to natural light. Soaring atriums, topped by glass skylights, bring natural light to more users of the large buildings.
